The Most Memorable Senior Prom

If you're invited to my blog, Click here to read the whole story (warning: it's long)

If you're not, you can either leave your email and I can invite you, or this is the Readers Digest version of what happened to me at prom. I'll be taking this down in a few days.

Senior Prom. A night that you envision in your mind as a little girl filled with an amazing dress, beautiful flowers, pretty makeup, magic, fun, friends, a limo and just perfection.. Right? Almost. The night of my senior prom my makeup wasn't evenly on my eyes because the lighting where I was sitting made it hard to get it perfect; I had to take it completely off twice. I was having a hard time staying calm because little brother was stressing me out since he was to pick up his date in 20 minutes and still didn’t know what exactly he was wearing. It was hard keeping my cool with my sister who was helping me with my hair that I hated the first 2 rounds of it trying to do it. I was frustrated that it wouldn't work the way I wanted it! Time was quickly running out and I had to take it out, and start all over again. Finally, I got it to work- even though it wasn’t exactly the way I had envisioned it. I thought that that would be the most of my worries of the night. As my date and I zoomed off in a fancy red sports car for the night, I was proud of myself for getting through such a hard ordeal just getting ready. Little, little did I know about getting through hard things.

Day Date: Jump On It!
Get ready
Pictures: Capitol Building
Dinner: Benihanas (Water, Lemonade, soup/salad, Chicken/Shrimp, rice, veggies)
The story: We were at the dance for about half an hour when my head started to feel like it was being attacked by needles. Put it off but as I went to go rest for a minute I knew something was wrong so I ran to the bathroom- lips tingling and hand itching. In the bathroom, lips were 3x their normal size, I started rashing, sweating, crying, hyperventilating, and I couldn't breathe. Chaperone called for backup and I couldn't control my body- pain, pain, pain. Tongue/lips swelled, took Benadryl and threw up, twice. Lost my sense of vision, had to take my dress off, couldn't think.. a plethora of problems. Ambulance came, carted me out of prom, got hooked up to steroids and IVs, thought it was drugs, food poisoning or an allergy. At hospital lot more bad things happened but I survived and today, we know it is some sort of unknown allergy. Will know upon more testing.

It would have been impossible to get through this entire thing had it not been for all the amazing people that rallied behind me. Truly, the prayers worked and I was able to gain so much strength from those around me. So thank you!! From the bottom of my heart, I love you and will forever be indebted to you.

In the end, maybe I didn't get the ‘typical’ prom experience; However, I honestly did have such an awesome time except for the last 2 hours of it. Obviously both my date and I will remember that night in a slightly more scary way, but I am so confident that this was supposed to happen and things were as they were meant to be, so I am content with it. I have a sure and strong knowledge that there is a much bigger plan for me in store, so I’m not bitter or angry. I was supposed to live and I’m here on earth with this experience so I hope to find the lesson in it when appropriate so I can maybe help someone else or do whatever it is that I’m supposed to do with it. My makeup got smeared off with my tears, my hair looked absolutely horrendous, and my little brother ended up ditching his date to meet up with his sister at the ER. But, if anything, I have been greatly blessed because I know now that I am so much stronger than I thought, I have a greater understanding and realization of the purpose of my life, and above all, I know I can do hard things.

Life is a storm

Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout:
Do your worst, for I will do mine!

Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

After a grueling day of not finding anything out, I found out most of my family is alive and ok. Friends are ok as well- despite being very harshly hit. We still have some friends who are unaccounted for, but we will find out as soon as we can. So far, we have been so blessed. Thank you for your thoughts, love, texts, hugs, and prayers. It has helped so much.

Please continue to keep Japan in your thoughts and prayers.

Public and Private Blog: Best of both worlds

Many of you have asked about how I worked my new blog (lisaadachi.blogspot.com) with all my old posts on it from my public blog (howtosavealifeguard.blogspot.com). I've gotten so many requests I figured I might as well post about it!

I would post screen shots and link this all for you, but I'm really not feeling up to it today so I will definitely post them and link this another day but I will write out the basic steps for you.

Creating a Public AND Private blog
1) Click on your Dashboard, under SETTINGS, there is a mini tab called BASIC. This should be the very first and default tab that comes up.
2) Under BASIC, the very first heading is BLOG TOOLS. Click on EXPORT BLOG
3) You have to save your blog to your hard drive, so click DOWNLOAD BLOG
4) After you export your blog onto your hard drive (be sure to remember where you save it), Create a new blog-- this is just under your dashboard and shouldn't be too much of an issue. Make this blog a PRIVATE blog.
5) After you create your new one, you go back to SETTINGS>>BASIC>>BLOG TOOLS and then click on IMPORT BLOG
6) It's important to keep in mind that the only thing that will import are your posts (and drafts), tags, and and the comments are the things that you will have.
7) This is the hard part. If you have changed your display settings like crazy as I've done on mine, the only way you can make it look like your other (PUBLIC) blog is to copy those exact same settings onto your new blog.
8) To do this, you must go into DESIGN, then into the TEMPLATE DESIGNER and hand change all of thes e settings. I always minimize both my windows to the size of half the screen, then place them right next to each other so I can "toggle" between the screens without having to open/close. An easier way to do this is to just copy the setting (for example, the color of your text is a number code) Cntl+C, then click on the NEW blog settings and paste it directly into the corresponding box (Cntl+V).
9) The actual making the new blog actually didn't take me very long, but the editing to make it look like before was the really tricky and menial part.
10) Gadgets do not transfer, so you will also have to add new gadgets to your new blog and copy and paste the content into those as well.
11) DELETE ALL your old posts on your public blog. That way, you'll start clean, but all your content is already imported safely on your computer and on your new blog.
12) When you are done, you will be left with two beautifully and almost identical blogs. One public, and one private. I've changed a lot of things on my private blog, but for the most part they are very similar. I decided to delete all of the gadgets on the public one, and keep it mainly just an update blog.

To post:
1) Simply write a post on your PRIVATE blog, publish it, and click on the "VIEW POST" when you're done-- not VIEW BLOG.  Copy the URL.

2) Go to your PUBLIC blog and post that you've posted and if you're nice, you'll include the link for people to click on! :)

Though very menial and time-consuming, I've found this to be the best method. That way, people can still see on their blog rolls if you've updated (the PUBLIC url is the one they will keep on their rolls) and not forget about you! Sometimes I post things on my public blog that I don't mind sharing with everyone, but my personal blog is just that-- personal. I share intimate stories, pictures of my family, and personal thoughts and feelings. So in order to protect myself and my family, I've decided to go this route.

Good luck with your own blogs and let me know if I can explain anything a little clearer!
Blogging is a Blessing! :)

And now you get the best of both worlds! ;)

PRO Fireside

President Eyring paid a surprise visit to the most amazing fireside I've ever been to and probably will ever attend in a long time tonight. How blessed am I?? My wish and hope is that you will all someday, somehow, be able to find the joy and happiness I've felt through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I'd like to extend an invitation to visit http://mormon.org/ to find more information, Or, if you are already familiar with the Church, consider linking to this site and sharing it with others online through your social networking means. Read this talk about sharing the Gospel online.

Wow. So amazing.

Helping in The Vineyard

I saw this  posted on my Facebook newsfeed from Mormon.org-- it's called

Helping in The Vineyard
(you can click on the image or link above)

It's a website by the Church that allows for volunteer activities online! I tried a few and it's really, very simple. They have lots of different tasks that need to be completed.

Anyone can join in and help! All you need to do is register for an account and they will get you started!

And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
- Mosiah 2:17

As always, please leave your email address if you'd like an invite to read the full version of HTSAL!

Have a beautiful day,

President Gordon B. Hinckley

3 years.

That's how long it's been since President Hickley left this life for another calling.

I remember when it happened- I was in 9th grade, 15 years old. It was my best friend Cade's birthday. I never forget the 27th. Jessica sent me a text that told me he had passed away.

My mom and I immediately went and turned on the TV, where the news covered the story for hours on end.

I remember crying. I remember being in denial. I remember not knowing what to do. I remember feeling sad. I remember feeling grateful. I remember praying.

I also remember, very vividly, how they quoted President Hinckley in his last moments about being overjoyed with happiness that he was finally going to be able to be with the woman of his dreams once more.

You can read more about his life here, but all I can say is that I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to live through his leadership. What an impact  he made on each of us, either directly or indirectly. He challenged each of us to live a little nicer, Stand a Little Taller, and BE a little better. He spoke eloquently and had a wonderful way of speaking through the spirit. Many of my favorite quotes (see bottom of this blog/sidebar) are from him. He was a strong proponent or temple building, and progressed the temple work more than anyone before him.

One of my favorite stories comes from this address (PLEASE go listen to it!!) given by President Thomas S. Monson at the BYU devotional. It is called "Principles of Prophets" that gives intimate and humorous, as well as touching and strong accounts of his relationship with all the prophets he had lived with/through.
He states:
All of you will recall that during the last
few years of his life President Hinckley always
had a cane with him. He would walk to his seat
in the Conference Center while waving to the
crowd with his cane or using it to tap someone
on the shoulder. President Hinckley and I for
years went to the same doctor, and during one
of my visits a few years ago, the doctor said to
me, “Could you please do me a favor? President
Hinckley should use his cane for walking
because it steadies him. The last thing we want
is for him to fall and break a hip, or worse.
Instead, he waves it around and doesn’t use it
when he walks. Tell him the cane has been
prescribed by his doctor, and he needs to use it
as it was meant to be used.”

I listened to the physician’s request and
then replied, “Doctor, I am President Hinckley’s
counselor. You are his doctor. You tell him!”

:) The story makes me smile. He definitely did have such a sweet and happy spirit. I am grateful for his life and for his death that made me appreciate him so much more.

His legacy will always be remembered.

We love you, President Hinckley!

Favorite Apps?

This is a general plea, even from people who don't read my blog. :)

I've always been a strong proponent of non-apple/mac products, simply because I felt they were overrated and overpriced. I still think those things, however, I am now an apple product owner..

So, I'm wondering, what are your favorite apps from the app store?

Some of mine that I love so far are Cut the Rope, ESPN ScoreCenter, LDS Music and Scripture Mastery, Pandora, I<3Fireworks, Blue Block and Kids Paint (yes, I still love to draw and color!!)

Please, do share!!
